MCA's Adult Justice Committee
Kay Arola,Chair

The Adult Justice Committee is one MCA’s standing committees. It’s purpose is to focus on issues pertinent to adult corrections, both in the field and in institutions. This Committee also works closely with other MCA committees, particularly the Legislative Committee, to address these issues and to ensure that concepts of restorative justice and sound correctional practices are considered when developing initiatives regarding adult justice. Emphasis is always placed on our unique role as corrections practioners to maintain a balance between public safety and our responsibility to assist and encourage offenders to change.

Monthly meetings are held and a variety of contemporary issues are explored. At recent meetings, this committee engaged in discussions about officer safety standards and training, offender housing issues, drug court expansion issues and the new discretionary ISR process as well as pending legislative issues. The meetings are a great opportunity for MCA members to share information, network and provide valuable feedback specific to Adult Justice issues.

This Committee consists of several members who have served on this committee for many years – as well as some individuals new to this committee. Current members are: Brad Odegard, Charlene Washa, Brian Moreau, Howard Claussen, Cindy Kragenbring, Jason Mullenbach and Deb Anderson. The Adult Justice Committee welcomes new members who have an interest in working on corrections issues that affect our adult clients.
